The PressBelt has been developed for all press types, shoe or roll, to improve sheet smoothness and printability. The impermeable surface becomes ultra smooth under pressure and presents a completely even surface to the paper sheet. Rewetting and profile problems are eliminated by the impermeable sheet side surface. PressBelt is applicable to all paper grades where sheet smoothness matters and improvements of 30% can be achieved.
PressBelt was applied to a machine producing book cover grades. This trial in effect meant reducing the machine to a single nipped suction press machine. The belt was run with no steam consumption increase on the heavier grades produced. Sheet appearance and smoothness improved dramatically. Lighter weight grades required a load increase in the remaining press but bulk was retained, as there was one less press nip.
